This is what Lokafy is all about—bringing cultures together and making friendships grow. As we journey through the stories of our remarkable Lokafyers, we now transition continents to explore a wholly different corner of the world. Today, we meet Luca, a proud local of Turin, born and raised. Luca's passion for his city is palpable as he unfurls its treasures and hidden gems to those who seek to experience Turin in its unadulterated splendor.
Now, let's dive into our talk with Luca to learn about his story, his journey as a Lokafyer, and his deep love for Turin, his home.
Tell us a bit about yourself!
I was born in Turin 55 years ago. I've always traveled a lot in my life, I've lived for a while in Spain, London and the USA. I've always loved foreign languages and cultures, therefore I took a degree in Foreign Languages at Turin University.
I work as a teacher and I teach English, French and Spanish.
I'm married to a Spanish woman and we have a daughter and a son. They are both about 20 now. I'm also a life coach, I love having different jobs and activities so every day is different and never boring!
How long have you been living in your city and what do you love about it?
I've been living in my city all my life. I love its XVII century elegant style, the 18 kilometers of arcades, its elegant streets and ancient coffee shops.
How did you discover Lokafy and what made you want to become a Lokafyer?
As I am on the Internet as a private teacher I was contacted by Lokafy, a few years ago, and this formula appeared to me very interesting: the tourists find a guide but also a friend in the city they visit and I think this is the winning idea.
The perfect mix of history, culture, habits and personal themes is what you find during our conversations. Loving this new concept of tourism, I didn't hesitate a moment to accept it.
What are some of the most memorable experiences you've had with travelers through Lokafy?
The most touching story is about a 80 year old couple who traveled from London to Turin for a weekend. They both were in very good health conditions and walked a lot!
I was so surprised when they told me they traveled every weekend!!!
How has Lokafy changed your perspective on travel and culture?
Now that I can't travel as much as before, Lokafy is for me a window over the world. Talking to different people I can learn a lot of things about their culture and habits.
It hasn't changed my point of view, it has enriched my knowledge and my world.
What are some of the tips or advice that you would give to someone who wants to travel like a local?
Try to be as natural as possible! Ask anything you want!
When you find a Lokafyer you find a friendly, spontaneous, kind, smiling and chatty person who is proud to show you his/her city.
When you’re not working for Lokafy, what do you like to do for fun?
I like cinema, taking photos, football (Juventus) and of course traveling.
Any final comments for travelers visiting your city?
Usually when you think about Italy you think about Venice, Rome, Florence, etc...Turin is not considered very much, actually it's really underestimated. But when people discover its precious beauty they fall in love with it!!!
Just as Luca has illuminated Turin's history, charm, and hidden gems, every Lokafyer adds a unique hue to the canvas of exploration. For us, feeling like a local, connecting with new people, and discovering hidden gems that aren’t perceived by many are key aspects of our tours, setting us apart. As you anticipate our upcoming blogs, rest assured that we'll continue our conversations with other Lokafyers, delving into their stories and cities. Because it's through them that the most special part of Lokafy shines—people who share their love and knowledge, making the world a more connected and vibrant place.
