Today's NOTED blog post is about the wonderful city of Bangkok. You might be familiar with it as the capital city of Thailand but did you know that Bangkok has the longest name out of any city in the world?
Before Bangkok even became the capital city of Thailand, locals used to call it Bahng Gawk, which basically translates into Bahng (a place), Gawk (olives). Otherwise known as a place with lot's of olive trees. However once it became a capital city, King Rama had named it Krung Thep but this was actually shortened from 163 syllables. In fact the full name in Thai is:
Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit.
If you can figure out how to say that, not only will it be impressive but very cool as well.
