Today's NOTED will be about Singapore. You might think that Singapore is just another country on the world map. However, did you know that it's actually a city-state? That's right, Singapore is 1 of 3 surviving city states in the world. The other two include Vatican City and Monaco.
It is considered to be a financial centre and is quite prosperous however it is still considered to be a sovereign state. This means that although it might display characteristics of a small, independent country, it is still a city-state. Historically speaking, there were popular city-states in the past, including Rome, Athens and Carnage. The purpose of a city state was to retain power and have its own separate government from neighbouring countries.
